Candle Care

Candle Care

Have you ever wondered why your candles burn out so quickly or why they don't give off as much fragrance as they used to? The answer may lie in how you care for your candles. Proper candle care is essential to ensure that you get the most out of your candles, both in terms of burn time and fragrance throw. In this blog post, we will explore the basics of candle care and provide you with some tips on how to make your candles last longer.

Why is candle care important?

First and foremost, proper candle care ensures that your candles burn evenly and last longer. When a candle is burned incorrectly, it can create a tunneling effect, where the wax burns down the center and leaves a ring of unused wax around the edges. This not only wastes wax but also reduces the burn time of the candle.

Additionally, proper candle care helps to maintain the fragrance throw of the candle. Over time, dust and debris can accumulate on the surface of the wax, inhibiting the release of fragrance. By taking care of your candles, you can ensure that they continue to fill your space with their delightful scents.

How can you make your candles last longer?

1. Trim the wick: Before lighting your candle, make sure to trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. A longer wick can cause the candle to burn too quickly and produce excess soot.

2. Let it burn: When you light your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax melts evenly across the entire surface. This helps to prevent tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the life of the candle.

3. Avoid drafts: Drafts can cause candles to burn unevenly and can also increase the rate of burning. Keep your candles away from open windows, fans, and air vents.

4. Use a candle snuffer or Dipper: Instead of blowing out your candles, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Blowing out a candle can cause the wick to smolder and produce excess smoke which can overpower the scent of your candle.

5. Store properly: When not in use, store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Exposure to heat and sunlight can cause the wax to soften or discolor.

6. Use a candle plate: This will protect your surfaces from heat damage.  You can also use your candle's lid if it comes with one.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your candles last longer and continue to provide a warm and inviting ambiance to your space. So, the next time you light a candle, remember to trim the wick, let it burn evenly, and keep it away from drafts. Happy candle burning!
